According to the affidavit, when OPD arrived at the scene, they activated their patrol vehicle’s lights and sirens, quickly identifying the suspect involved in the incident—30-year-old Ezekiel Warner.

As officers approached, Warner took off running as soon as one of them stepped out of the patrol vehicle.

He fled into a nearby house but later emerged, at which point OPD apprehended him. However, while officers attempted to handcuff him, Warner resisted arrest.

The affidavit states that OPD then spoke with Ward County Deputy Benjamin Salgado, who had been involved in the initial altercation with Warner.

Salgado reported that Warner accused him of being a federal agent before pulling out a small black knife. In response, Salgado drew his firearm and displayed his sheriff’s office badge, identifying himself as a deputy.

According to the affidavit, Warner then pointed the knife at Salgado and advanced toward him despite being ordered to back away. Although Warner eventually dropped the knife, he continued moving toward the deputy in an apparent attempt to fight him.

Based on the evidence gathered during their investigation, OPD determined there was sufficient cause to charge Warner with aggravated assault on a public servant, resisting arrest, and evading arrest.

As of now, Warner’s bond has not been set.
